Background
Cordina Farms, one of Australia’s leading poultry producers, has partnered with ExoFlare to digitise and streamline biosecurity processes across its 74 sites in New South Wales. The move comes as the industry faces increased pressure on biosecurity and a need for faster, more reliable risk mitigation tools.
About Cordina Farms
Cordina is one of Australia’s oldest and most established poultry producers, supplying high-quality fresh and value-added chicken products to major supermarkets and foodservice outlets nationwide. With operations spanning farming, processing, and distribution, Cordina is committed to innovation, safety, and sustainability at every level of production.
Dr Alex-Kate Langfield, Cordina’s Group Veterinarian and Technical Advisor said that on review of the current biosecurity procedures in place in Cordina, Cordina were looking for an efficient and seamless digital system to track and manage visitors to their sites and provide extra protection from potential biosecurity issues.
“Everyone walking through the gate has to meet our entry requirements, so ultimately, biosecurity is everyone’s responsibility. We needed a platform that ensures accountability and gives our teams the tools to respond quickly. We’re also able to track both vehicles and people, which is essential when you’re managing this many sites.”

Smarter systems, stronger safeguards
“Exoflare is a leading proactive initiative, used to get ahead of the risks and put safeguards in place. With Exoflare we can flag high-risk visitors immediately, whether they’re unwell, have recently been to another poultry farm, or have birds at home, and respond quickly by intervening and putting restrictions in place. ” Dr Langfield says.
In the poultry industry, it’s critical that farm visits occur in a specific order – starting with younger birds and moving to older flocks – to minimise the risk of spreading disease. Visiting farms in the wrong sequence can significantly increase the chances of introducing pathogens. “That level of visibility and response time is critical,” Dr Langfield says. “It gives us the confidence that we’re protecting our flocks at every stage of production.”
Easy to use and real-time reassurance
Ease of use and quick deployment were also key to the success of the rollout. “One of the biggest benefits is how simple it is. You don’t need an app or special training – everyone’s familiar with QR codes thanks to COVID. And if we need to update a protocol or add a new site, the ExoFlare team can make it live within 24 hours.”
Lloyd Ponder, from Cordina’s breeding division, has seen the impact firsthand. “Biosecurity is absolutely critical in breeder farms – it’s where a lot of investment is concentrated. With ExoFlare, there’s much more traceability. It stops people at the gate, requires them to sign in before they have access to the property. If the sign in flags a high risk, access is limited until further review. It works, and it’s immediate,” he says.
Built for the future
Looking ahead, Cordina sees digital biosecurity as an essential. “This puts power back in the hands of farmers,” Dr Langfield says. “It reinforces those basic but vital practices – and gives us the tools to manage risks before they escalate. As the emphasis on biosecurity grows across the ag sector, this kind of platform will be vital.”
